You may or may not know, we live in a 90’s era tract home.  Upon purchase it was seriously devoid of character: I mean none, zip, no character….

I fell in love with its light, I fell in love with that fact it is situated across from an elementary school and I fell in love with that fact it was a house, the only one our real estate had shown us that day we went out and viewed potential homes back in 2009.

Fast forward to today….we’ve done a lot of work, we’ve created a lot of what I would describe as character, and now I cannot imagine moving. I love our house. But, big but here, our entry way. A grand underutilized space with a sweeping two story ceiling. Why? Why a two story ceiling in a rather smallish home at just 1,500 SQ. FT? This is a space that has never made sense to me. There is a BIG ugly, blank wall two stories high. I always wondered…

In the picture above, that wall goes up two whole stories…it just has always looked cold and austere. What should I do? Do I buy a HUGE family portrait 5ft. by 10ft. to put up there? Too ostentatious? Hmmm….a HUGE over sized wreath? Too ornamental? Y’all get my point, I was lost. But then….yep, wheels started churning when I heard about a product called Timber Chic. offers a reclaimed wood product that can be adhered to almost any surface. It comes in beautiful planks of reclaimed wood. It’s easy to install (I did think about this knowing it’d be Adam standing on a two story ladder creating my dream entry way…), comes in mutilple colors, is pre-finished and is real wood. All of this sounded pretty perfect to me. I pitched the idea to Adam, and might have sweetened the deal with a meat loaf, and he said he loved the idea!
Our wood arrived! My sweet husband went to work…. Adam decided to add a tiny space between each board, this added even more dimension and left acting Slav in between each board that I could later use to hang tiny nails to affix pictures without harming the wood.

My main job as Adam worked in his free time was to keep the kids fed (as well as Adam ;))and out of his way as he hung the wood. It went pretty quickly. He used a small saw to cut each piece, and he creatively staggered each one’s color. We opted for the “white wash” color, which I thought would blend the best with my kinda cottage farmhouse vibe.

A few boards hung: I loved the new look right away!

So much so, you can see in this picture Adam hasn’t finished this wall, but I went to work decorating!

Our front room and entry was always a kinda cold space, but now I think it feels warmer and more blends with the rest of the house.

It’s been about a month’s process to get it all done, mainly because in the interim we went on vacation, and school started, and Adam wanted to take his time and have it come together perfectly. Oh and we had to borrow a ginormous ladder from our neighbor’s and he opted to change the trim on the doors here, the new wood started a domino effect of new projects to be undertaken.

After several weekend though….It DID come to together perfectly! And I love the new look sooooo much!

Finally this space makes sense to me, and I keep running my fungers over the smooth yet rustic finish of the river wood: it’s gorgeous!

You can see I’ve not filled in the holes on the new trim, but I HAVE hung pictures on the new wood: priorities! I’m just so excited, I couldn’t wait to play!

Thank you to Adam for all his hard work, thank you to the girls for minding that ladder while it was in place and thank you to for their gorgeous product.

While this was a sponsored post, as always my views and experiences are my own. Timber Chic is a product I whole heartedly recommend!

I'm the momma to three sweet peaches, and the blessed wife of one kind husband. My background is in art, and my B.A. Is in fine art. I like to use my house as my canvas, and love DIY projects around the house.

Just gorgeous! I love how you divided the entry from the living area using that console table, too.

Beautiful!!! You made a great choice for this wall and your hubby is quite talented! I just love how you have decorated it. You have soft and rustic going on and that’s a win/win.

I think the sofa table near your door is such a unique and terrific idea to make a sort of foyer area. I have the same situation.

    Have a great week!
