Bedroom Summer Refresh

July 30, 2016 21 Comments

I have joined some talented bloggers and refreshed a space in our home for summer. I finally decided to repaint our room and lighter color, and I am so far loving the change!

Since summer is in full swing I have joined up with a group of bloggers who are all sharing how we have refreshed our homes for the summer! There’s nothing quite like a little weekend blog hop to motivate and inspire!

I’ve been busy redoing lots of rooms in our house including the downstairs powder room, the girlie’s bedroom and most recently the kitchen. It seems like in everybody’s house the master bedroom is the one that always gets the most deprived and the last one to get attention. Why??!!

I decided that I finally wanted to change the dark accent wall in our master bedroom. I have loved having that chocolate, sarsaparilla brown, moody wall as a backdrop for our bed for many years…but I was ready for a change!! I wanted to go with something lighter and I also wanted to paint the other three remaining walls the same color to have a more cohesive and soothing look. Having received pretty new bedding for our king size bed I decided I wanted to go with a light gray/beige color for our bedroom.
I picked up the paint from Lowe’s and it actually only took me an afternoon to paint all four walls (that is of course because Adam took the girls out, so I had the house to myself!). The new color is really a cross between gray and beige, and  sometimes it even has a purple hue to it. It really lightened up the room right away.

I also decided that I needed something new to go over the bed. When Adam had finished our new bed it was a new size of space that remained from the top of the bedframe to the ceiling. I hadn’t really been happy with any of the choices I had tried up there as of late.

I liked the arrow but I think it was a bit small and I wanted something more romantic.

The flowers were more romantic but I still wanted something BIGGER!  I thought if I could find the right size and color or the hanging it would lighten up the space even more while still adding interest.
I decided to go with a large sign at 2′ x 4′ with the simple phrase love painted on it. I think it’s large-scale really adds to the openness of the room and make the space look even bigger than it actually is.

imageThe new sign creates such a focal point, I decided to take down the rustic white frames on either side of the bed…I moved them to the dining room! I’m loving them there, plus I get to enjoy the sweet pictures of our family more often being displayed in a more used room…
I also was in the market for something new to put our printer on in the corner of her room. Since I own my own business and we don’t have enough space in our house for home office Adam and I do all of our business right with in the bedroom on the desk and we need to have a printer nearby. It’s always been in trouble to try to find the right thing to house the printer on. I actually found a bookshelf that was wide enough to hold on the bottom shelf a printer and it doesn’t look too obvious or add two big the footprint in the room. (It is our new kitty Ziggy’s favorite spot as well!).

I had to take ALL the pictures down in the room in order to paint, so I got to rehang the collage wall I had created over our long white dresser.  I simplified it a bit and took away a few of the trinkets and pictures that were not essential to the design thereby simplifying the room even more.

I’m really pleased with all of my decor decisions I do still want to still find two lights that I can put on either side of our bed. By not having table lamps on the nightstands and rather installing lights into the wall will have more room to put various sundries like books, glasses and other personal items.I have seen some very modestly priced ones via Amazon.com and plan to add those soon.  As I have finished up our summer refreshed bedroom, I also decided to use the quilt on our bed on the darker side.  Even though it is darker, it still adds a bit of a refreshed change to the room, and I like the contrast to the white of the duvet underneath even more!  Everyone likes and has been enjoying the new room, even Ziggy!

Now the only thing left to do is decide which room I am going to tackle next!

So warm, cozy and inviting. Your girls look so comfy in it. The new paint color really complements your bed, and did you say your husband built the bed? Those are some SERIOUS skills! Loved the ‘LOVE’ sign, (it’s the perfect scale) and that garland is so fun.
And you are so right – my master bedroom is the most neglected in our house. Even the guest room looks better than my master lol.

Kirsten, Your bedroom is lovely! The new wall color really does brighten up the space! I also love the art over the bed! The photo of your girls and kitty all piled up on the bed is so sweet!

P.S. You’re so right, our master bedroom is certainty the most neglected space in our home right now! Not sure why it always plays out that way!
